No meeting agenda information posted at this time. Please try back later.

This Tuesday the MidMichigan Rock Club will meet at the Chippewa Nature Center at 7:00 pm.  The program will be:
Identify Rocks With The Petrological Microscope
Prof. Mona Sirbescu, Central Michigan University
Prof. Sirbescu, who teaches mineralogy and petrology in the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at CMU, will bring with her a couple of microscopes and several rock thin sections to demonstrate and explain how geologists identify and characterize rocks, and how they distinguish between different rocks  of the same general type.  There will be opportunity for members to use the microscopes.
She may also bring along one of her geology students to help identify "mystery rocks" brought by members, so you are encouraged to bring some rocks that you have wondered about.  Although it will not be possible to prepare thin sections and use the petrological microscopes for your samples, the professor and her students are a lot better than most of us at making educated guesses based on visual inspection of hand-samples.
